Free Compliance Tools
Free Leak Rate Calculators
EPA-approved calculation methods · Updated for the 2026 mandate
Calculate EPA-compliant leak rates for any regulated refrigerant using the same engine that powers Ref LeakLog. Each calculator supports both the Annualizing and Rolling Average methods as defined in 40 CFR Part 84, Subpart C — and the R-22 calculator applies them under 40 CFR Part 82, the Section 608 rule ODS refrigerants still follow. EPA Leak Rate Thresholds by Equipment Category
Leak rate thresholds are determined by equipment category — not by refrigerant type. The same refrigerant may have different thresholds depending on how the equipment is classified.
| Equipment Category | Leak Rate Threshold |
|---|---|
| Comfort Cooling | 10% |
| Commercial Refrigeration | 20% |
| Industrial Process | 30% |
| Transport Refrigeration | 10% |
Source: 40 CFR Part 84, Subpart C (§ 84.106). Thresholds apply to systems with ≥15 lbs of refrigerant charge, effective January 1, 2026. R-22 and other ODS-only appliances are the exception: they follow the same trigger rates under 40 CFR § 82.157, at a 50-lb applicability floor.
