EPA Leak Rate Thresholds by Equipment Category
Leak rate thresholds are determined by equipment category — not by refrigerant type. The same refrigerant may have different thresholds depending on how the equipment is classified.
| Equipment Category | Leak Rate Threshold |
|---|---|
| Comfort Cooling | 10% |
| Commercial Refrigeration | 20% |
| Industrial Process | 30% |
| Transport Refrigeration | 10% |
Source: 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F. Thresholds apply to systems with ≥15 lbs of refrigerant charge, effective January 1, 2026.
Automate Compliance for Your Entire Fleet
These calculators show you the math. Ref LeakLog does the math for you — automatically, for every system, every service call, every technician. Plus repair tracking, audit reports, and deadline reminders.
